Katelyn and Tyler…. The implosion.

Well… it's happened. Katelyn and Tyler have parted ways. As parents, this was something that we knew would eventually happen. Like most teenage girls, Katelyn had grand delusions of engagement, marriage, honeymoon in some tropical location, etc. I have always thought Tyler was a nice boy. He really went out of his way to make Katelyn's 16th birthday very special. He was always polite, kind, etc. He got good grades, a job and his own savings account. All things looked good and Katelyn was… HAPPY!!!

Things started to go REALLY downhill about a week ago. I had hoped that this break-up would end like a little fend bender between 2 civilized people…. 2 people have a small collision, they get out of their cars with tempers under control, look at the cars and decide there is no damage to haggle about and peacefully get into their vehicles and go on about their business. NO. OH OH NO. NOT EVEN CLOSE. This breakup has been named the "implosion" for a reason!!! This breakup has been (and continues to be) like a HUGE meteor that we KNEW was going to hit us soon… it pierced through the atmosphere, smashed to the ground and continued to skid FOR MILES leaving horror and destruction in its path. WHOAH! For 3 minutes it will seem like she is over it and then her emotions take over AGAIN and we have a dramatic fit of crying and yelling as she crumples to the floor. I am not making fun… believe me… I REMEMBER high school and I WOULDN'T GO BACK even if you paid me!!!

So tonight… Katelyn is going out for a "girls night out" with some of her friends. Katelyn is used to.. and really likes… feeling like a QUEEN. Tonight she will be spending her time with some adoring freshman girlfriends of hers. She is a sophomore and these girls think the sun rises and sets on Katelyn. These girls want to be "just like her". This evening should be good for Katelyn's mindset. Who doesn't want to be adored???

I tried to comfort Katelyn with my "this is how relationships are at this age" speech which was quickly followed by the "you need some rain to see the rainbows" speech which was then followed by the "every rose has its thorn" speech. It all fell on deaf ears.

And so I now close with a BEFORE THE BREAKUP and AFTER THE BREAKUP remembrance of Katelyn during Katelyn and Tyler's relationship:

Katelyn DURING:

Katelyn AFTER:

Keep your chin up girl… you're a wonderful, beautiful, smart, talented, funny, spectacular girl!

PS… and you don't need a BOY to validate all of this!!!
